The Opportunity
The position will be a full-time entry-level engineer working in the Hydro-Electric, Federal Government “Division”. https://www.yecomt.com/projects-done-right/federal-government/. at Yellowstone Electric Co. The permanent duty station will be either Billings, MT or Casper, WY depending on the applicant.

Yellowstone Electric Co. was founded in 1937 in Billings, MT serving the state of Montana. Since 2011 the Hydro-Electric, Federal Government division working primarily at Hydro Electric Dams throughout the United States has completed 27 projects with a total revenue since then of over 180 million-dollars. Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering {Completed Dec. 2025}
- Other disciplines will be considered based on coursework
- ABET Accredited College
- Passing of the FE required with eventual licensing as a PE.
- 0 – 3 years of previous experience
- Must be able to communicate with peers, contractors, and clients clearly and efficiently
- Troubleshooting skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat
- AutoCAD, MicroStation or Revit familiarity/experience a plus
- Exposure to 3Ø Power, Motors, Motor Controllers, Drives, and programming/controls a plus
- Knowledge of NEC codes and IEEE standards a plus
- Must be a self-starter capable of handling solo projects as well as working with a group, eager to learn and expand your skillset, and be detail oriented
- A Pre-employment drug screening in compliance with state regulations is required
- Must possess a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record without restrictions
- Work Ethic will be primary criteria followed by any experience such as internships, etc.
Benefits
- Target salary range: $75,000 to $82,000. Please note that Yellowstone Electric Co. considers various factors in determining pay, including but not limited to education, relevant and demonstrated work experience, skills, geographic location, qualifications, certifications, and other competencies relevant to the needs of the business.

Responsibilities
- This position provides electrical and controls engineering support for Hydro-Electric Federal Government facilities nationwide
- You will participate in support of the QC deliverables to clients.
- Specification review and clarification writing associated with multi-million-dollar projects
- Produce electrical bid packages under the direction of Yellowstone Electric Co. licensed engineer
- Perform load calculations
- Cable sizing and routing
- Grounding of substations and powerplants
- Specification/Procurement of equipment, instruments, materials
- PLC programming
- Microprocessor Relay Schemes
- Communicate with project team, clients, and vendors
- Site visits
- Testing and compliance with IEEE standards.
- Submittal Documentation
- Scheduling and Introduction program management under the Yellowstone Electric Co. licensed engineer
- Frequent travel to remote locations here in the United States with the possibility of international travel to Mexico/Europe once or twice a year, depending on the status of manufacturing of key supply components.
